All the Pretty Lies (Pretty #1) - M. Leighton

All the Pretty Lies - M. Leighton

Well, I liked this book but didn't fall in love with it. I liked the writing, I enjoyed the plot, but I guess by problem is I didn't really connect with Hemi the main Hero. I guess I could find him attractive for him being a sexy, tattoo artist and I got why Sloane fell for him and how they are similar in so many aspects. But still there was something "off" for me about him. I get that he wanted her for the wrong reasons (with a double meaning you'll get when you read it) but still he was too self absorbed for me. I did like him when the truth came out, when we learn his secret (but you'll have to wait for at least 2/3 of the book if not more..) and when he realized how much he cares about her.

Sloane is a sweet heart. She is sweet, shy, but when she reaches 21, she wants to spread her wings and fly and leave her childhood's innocence behind. How lucky she "stumbles"  into Hemi just then. She wants him but she isn't brave enough to really fight for him, she tries to show him her interest but in the end an act that her friend Sara made - made the difference.

Sloane's brothers are cops, as is her father, so she grew up in a very sheltered environment which she want to leave so she can start living her life. I loved how it progressed with her growing up and showing her family that she is ready to "leave the nest" but I also loved that in the end, even if her family wants to shelter her, they love her enough to respect her, and make sure she doesn't miss out on life for the wrong reasons.

Both Sloane and Hemi has their secrets, Sloane doesn't press him on his, since she doesn't want to reveal her own. I got her secret pretty soon though it is revealed near the end of the book. With Hemi I kept on guessing, and guessing wrong.. His story isn't what I thought it was, and when I did realize his story, background, he was also changed by his relationship with Sloane - that's when I started appreciating him.

The pace of this one is pretty slow when it comes to knowing what's really "going on" with Hemi, Sloane and in between. Sloane grows up and matures in this journey but so does Hemi, who learns what's important in life and living.

Next one in the series is about Hemi's brother Reese and if he is the asshole he sounded on the phone speaking to Hemi, I'm not sure I really feel like investing myself with another one with a self absorbed male for the main character. Sure, he'll learn his place by the woman he loves, but until then i'm not sure I'm ready for him right now.. I'll get back to this one later.
